SACRAMENTO, CA- July 7, 2006- The Western Plant Health Association (WPHA) has appointed Richard Cornett as its director of communications. Cornett will be responsible for managing and directing communication operations for the group’s membership, as well as the general public and news organizations.
Cornett has worked for several news organizations in Northern California during his long career. He once served as newsroom editor for the Roseville Press-Tribune, was a copy editor at The Sacramento Bee and was the weekend news editor for The Stockton Record. He is also a former public information officer for the California Conservation Corps. Cornett has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Long Beach, and has lived in the Sacramento area for 16 years with his wife and daughter.
“Rich is an excellent addition to our staff as we strive to better serve our association members in getting our message out, and, because of his media background, will be very instrumental in conveying that message to the general public and news agencies,” said Renee Pinel, association president.
